During the campaign on Ebola virus disease prevention conducted by Easy and Possible Organization in partnership with UNICEF Rwanda, Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Centre and USAID, the public figures played a big role in community mobilization. These figures included musicians and the 2019 Rwanda Miss Popularity.

Hip Hop stars Joshua Tuyishime known by stage name as Jay Polly; Emery Gatsinzi aka Riderman and the 2019 Rwanda Miss Popularity, Josiane Mwiseneza attracted the public and had time to call upon the population on applying the prevention methods to make sure Rwanda doesn’t count any single case of Ebola.

One of those figures, Jay Polly explained that they can’t be bystanders when a very deadly disease such as Ebola is in the neighboring country rather they have to use their fame to urge the population on taking prevention measures. He says: “As public figures, we need to use the opportunity we have as opinion leaders in community activities such as campaign on Ebola prevention. This is a deadly disease which if we stay onlookers can even be transmitted to us. ”

Mr. Christophe Mfizi, a resident in Karangazi, Nyagatare District, Eastern Province praised these public figures for their efforts in the campaign on Ebola prevention. “I heard on Radio that the popular musicians will come in the road show organized for awareness on Ebola virus disease. Actually I came to enjoy their music performance but I also went home with information on Ebola virus disease”, said Mfizi.

In addition to music performance and session of urging the population to take preventive methods against Ebola, these public figures were interacting with the population methodologically by asking comprehension questions and later award those who respond correctly.
